Baptisms

Sacrament of Baptism
Please contact the parish secretary at least two weeks in advance
to sign up for class or to schedule a baptism.

If you need further assistance to complete the request process,
please call 540-552-1091 x10 to speak with the church secretary.

Participation in a Baptism Preparation Class is required.
St. Mary's Class is usually held the 3rd Thursday of each month.
Please contact the church secretary to register.
or prepare a certificate or letter from the church
who can verify participation in a previous session.


Baptisms are celebrated at Masses only on the 1st weekend of the month
or between Masses on the 3rd Sunday of the month.
Other arrangements can be made only after consultation with the clergy.

  1. Please download "The Baptism Request Form"
  2. Complete all blank sections
  3. Invite Godparent(s)/Christian Witness to prepare documents according to form instructions
  4. Assemble packet and deliver to church secretary for processing:
    1. during office hours
    2. to the staff mailbox in the church library - outside of office hours
    3. by email to officestaff@stmarysblacksburg.org
    4. by fax 540-953-2962
    5. by mail to 1205 Old Mill Rd, Blacksburg, VA 24060 Attn: Secretary
*All Godparents are required to submit a sponsor certificate or letter from their home church stating the following:
is a Roman Catholic, who is a registered and participating member of a Catholic Church,
at least 16 years old, and not the parent of the one to be baptized, having received the
three Sacraments of Initiation:  Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist;
who worships regularly to give witness to faith in Jesus Christ by partaking in
Holy Communion and by participating in the life of the parish, who actively
strives to live out commitment to Christ and to the Church by the sacrificial
giving of my time, talent, and treasure, and by loving response to neighbor and
realizes the great responsibility before God and the Church in becoming a
Godparent and promises to give support and guide the sponsored by prayers,
and most especially, and by Catholic example through daily life.

Children above the age of 7 and adults who wish to be baptized should contact the church office
for information on the RCIA and Religious Education programs.


Baptisms are dictated by the Liturgical Calendar. 
Infant Baptism is not scheduled during Lent without extenuating considerations.
